"WhatsApp Wrapped" (the format)
A year-in-review recap for a chat, in the style Spotify made famous for listening habits — built from an export, not from anything WhatsApp itself provides.
WhatsApp has no built-in "wrapped" feature of its own — there is no button in the app that produces one. The format itself is borrowed from Spotify Wrapped: a short, shareable, slide-by-slide recap of a year of activity, translated here from listening minutes to messages, reply times, and who talks more. Anything calling itself a WhatsApp Wrapped is a third-party tool reading your own chat export and turning it into that format — which also means the honesty of the result depends entirely on what that tool does with the file, including whether it uploads it anywhere at all.
Example
Where Spotify Wrapped says "you listened to 40,000 minutes this year," a chat wrapped says "you sent 29,433 messages this year" — same shape, a completely different underlying dataset that never touches a music-streaming server.
Frequently asked questions
Is a WhatsApp Wrapped made by WhatsApp or Meta?+
No — WhatsApp and Meta don’t produce this format at all. Every version of it is a separate tool reading an export you generated yourself.
Is my chat uploaded anywhere to make one?+
That depends entirely on the specific tool — this one parses the file inside your browser and never sends it anywhere, but that is a property of this implementation, not of the format in general, and is worth checking before using any tool that does it differently.
