WhatsWrapped

WhatsApp Wrapped vs. reading the chat yourself

Scrolling back through a year of messages finds moments. It doesn’t find patterns.

Anyone can scroll to the top of a chat and get a rough feel for it — who talks more, roughly how often you text. What scrolling can’t do is turn "roughly" into a number, or notice a pattern spread across ten thousand messages that no single scroll session could ever hold in view at once.

WhatsWrappedThe alternative
Exact message and word countsComputed from every message in the exportA guess, at best
Who replies faster, on averageA real median across every reply in the chatWhichever recent instance you happen to remember
Time requiredUnder a minute, onceHours, and only a partial picture even then
Something to actually shareA finished, shareable set of slidesA screenshot of one funny message

Scrolling is fine for finding one specific moment. It was never going to answer "how much have we actually talked this year" — that needs something that reads every message, not a sample of the ones you happen to scroll past.

Frequently asked questions

Isn’t scrolling through the chat more personal than a tool doing it?+

Reading the chat itself will always be the personal part — nothing here replaces actually reading your messages. What it replaces is trying to estimate a count or a pattern by memory, which people are reliably bad at over anything longer than a few dozen messages.

Do I need to give up my chat to get this?+

No — the export is read inside your own browser and never uploaded, so nothing about using a tool for this requires handing the chat to anyone.
